Description

FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BESTSELLING BIOGRAPHIES OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND ALBERT EINSTEIN, THIS IS THE EXCLUSIVE BIOGRAPHY OF STEVE JOBS.

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering.

Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.

Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

The pictures are small and not pinchable. You'll see transcripts of audio and video tapes instead of links to actually view the content described. Major disappointment in a book that should have had technological enhancements the man himself created that are so readily available.

I wish that I had met and known him. By the end of this book I feel as though I did. It depicted all sides of a man whose thought process is unlike most. I highly recommend it, particularly to those who aspire to creating things and building a company.

It has taken me some time to make myself sit and read books again, I started this book some time ago when it first came out, and life got busy and forced me to start over at a later time, meaning this past two months, I'm really a slow reader but as I kept going it became more and more of a fantastic read and knowing more about him and completing this book has given me a new view of Steve Jobs and it's made me love the products that he's created and that I use daily. Thank you for your innovation and making products that help to enrich and enhance our daily lives. "Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do."

The book is like the man himself - you will glorify it, villify it, revere it, hate it or admire it, but you will always remember it. Thank you, Steve.

This incredible book allowed me to know the life of one of the most influential genius of our age and how he created the wonderful post-PC devices that we use every day all day. Steve Jobs changed simply changed our life with his work. It will be awesome if all of us could work with the passion that he did.

I bought this book when it came out in 2011 using iBooks. Since all of the updates it has disappeared from the records. The book was excellent but this has also happened to music purchased in iTunes. Wth is going on?
